“After no qualifying and 16th and 20th place starting spots, BSI Racing finishes 9th and 12th”
July 21, 2023 – Heat, humidity, rain, and storms were the storyline of the Music City Grand Prix this past weekend as BSI Racing entered both Jordan RickSegrini and Steven Clemons Jr in the most recent ro
und of the Toyota GR Cup North America program. With the Nashville, TN event the first time that BSI entered two drivers, it was a crazy weekend off the track with Saturday’s qualifying and race one canceled due to a pair of different storms.
“Despite the challenges this weekend, the team did a fantastic job,” explained BSI Racing’s Shea Holbrook. “We were thrown some curve balls all weekend long but overcame them in our first event running two cars in this series.”
With times from practice two setting the grid, RickSegrini lined up 20th on the grid as Clemons Jr rolled off 16th. Supposed to be the starting positions for Saturday evening's first wheel-to-wheel race, the day was eventually scrapped due to a thunderstorm. Pushing race one to a different event weekend, drivers returned Sunday for the second chance to see the green flag and did so, just prior to the NTT INDYCAR SERIES main event.
Jordan Rick Segrini made some quick work of the competitors around him as he steadily moved forward from his P20 starting spot to cross the line 12th in his first career Toyota GR Cup North America event.
“With only driven the car for 12 total laps before my first race, I feel BSI Racing and I are already on the same page to be competitive for the remaining three rounds,” explained RickSegrini. “We had some great calls from the crew and ultimately, almost squeaked out a top ten. Excited for the future.”
Finishing ninth on the day, Clemons Jr reflected on his weekend, “With our qualifying being canceled the series took our times from practice twp. I wasn’t happy with our starting position of sixteenth just because I knew I could’ve done a lot better in qualifying, but I can’t complain because everyone had to deal with the same thing. The race start was hectic but surprisingly a lot cleaner than I thought. Although I think I did lose three positions at the start, and I knew those were going to be difficult to make up with how narrow the track is. Although just keeping it clean and capitalizing on other people's mistakes when I had the chance, I was able to make it up to ninth before the checkered flag flew. Sadly, we finished under yellow because I think the last couple of laps could’ve changed a lot but overall, I’m happy with the weekend, even though we didn’t race as much as I would’ve liked.”
In two weeks, BSI Racing, Jordan RickSegrini, and Steven Clemons Jr. will take on the 4.048-mile, 14-turn Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
