BSI Racing Captures 2025 Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup Team Championship Gonzalez finishes runner-up in Drivers’ Championship; Meza crowned Rookie of the Year
Daytona Beach, FL (October 21, 2025) — BSI Racing has secured the 2025 Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by Michelin Team Championship, earning the most points across the season and solidifying its reputation as one of the top programs in professional sportscar racing.
Led by Team Owners Shea Holbrook and Nick Chorley, the Daytona-based team demonstrated relentless execution, preparation, and championship-caliber focus throughout the year, claiming six total victories and multiple podiums across a highly competitive field.
A Gritty Finish to a Championship Season
The championship battle came down to the final weekend at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta during Petit Le Mans. BSI driver No. 57 Tyler Gonzalez entered the event in contention for the title, but a three-car incident in Race 1 resulted in a DNF. Displaying the team’s “never give up” mentality, BSI Racing quickly prepared a backup car for Gonzalez, allowing him to rebound and secure second place in the Drivers’ Championship, earning an $85,000 prize.
“This season was about grit, teamwork, and the will to win,” said Team Owner Shea Holbrook. “Every member of BSI Racing poured their heart into this championship. To bring home the Team title, have a driver finish runner-up in the championship, and earn back-to-back Rookie of the Year honors — that’s a testament to our culture and commitment to excellence. We race with integrity, and we never quit.”
Gonzalez, widely recognized as one of the best young sportscar drivers in America, delivered consistent front-running performances all season long in his first full MX-5 Cup campaign.
“I’m proud of what we accomplished this year,” said Tyler Gonzalez. “We had the speed, the team, and the mindset to fight for the title. Even when things didn’t go our way, BSI never stopped believing. I can’t thank Shea, Nick, and the crew enough — this team is family, and we hope to be back stronger.”
Meza Claims Rookie of the Year Honors
BSI’s championship momentum continued with Helio Meza, who clinched Rookie of the Year honors and an $80,000 payout. Meza, the 2024 Mazda Scholarship Runner-Up, came into the 2025 season with high expectations and delivered with front-row starts, multiple podiums, and a fifth-place finish overall in his debut year.
“Being part of BSI Racing gave me every tool to perform,” said Helio Meza. “From engineering to coaching, they pushed me to be better every weekend. Winning Rookie of the Year means a lot, and I’m proud to bring this home for the team.”
This marks back-to-back Rookie of the Year titles for BSI Racing, following Westin Workman’s 2024 honor.
Strong Results Across the Field
BSI Racing’s depth was showcased throughout its driver lineup:
Noah Harmon, the 2024 Mazda Scholarship Winner, joined the team mid-season and climbed to sixth in the final standings.
Westin Workman earned five podiums and finishing tenth overall.
Christian Hodneland concluded his rookie season 26th, while part-time drivers Ethan Tyler (P27), Julian DaCosta (P33), Jagger Jones (P37), Jesse Love (P42), Farhan Siqqidi (P47), and Selin Rollan (P55) contributed valuable points across the season.
