BSI Wraps up a historic month of may

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Daytona, Fl

BSI Racing celebrated a historic month of May this past month. Across four races in two different series’, BSI Racing found itself on the top step in all competition. For the first time in its history, BSI Racing earned weekend sweeps.

Tyler Gonzalez continued his dominant run in the Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by Michelin, while Westin Workman got over the hump in the Toyota GR Cup North America series.

Gonzalez put on a clinic at the “Alabama Roller Coaster”, at Barber Motorsports Park at the beginning of the month. Notching his fourth win of the season, Gonzalez took to the track in wet and dry conditions, dominating both races. Now the driver of the Classic Mazda of Orlando livery sits in second place in the points, right behind Jared Thomas.

But Gonzalez wasn’t the only BSI driver on the podium at Barber. Westin Workman notched his first podiums of the season with a P3 finish in race one and a P2 finish in race two. With these strong performances, BSI finds themselves squarely in the hunt for both a driver and team championship.

On the Toyota GR Cup side of things, BSI Racing made history at Sebring. Westin Workman carried his momentum from COTA and Barber directly into the historic bumpy track of Sebring where Workman earned pole and wins in both races over the weekend. Workman, who has been so close to the top step so many times, broke through with clinical drives.

Not only was it No. 13’s first win in the Toyota GR Cup, it was the first time that BSI Racing took the top step in the series as well. Once again, BSI finds itself firmly in the hunt for a driver’s championship and team championship as well.

“This is exactly what we envisioned when we started this journey,” said team owner Shea Holbrook.

“May has been a fever dream in the best way. Barber was just so much fun for us as a team. To see Tyler continue to compete at this level, and having Westin bounce back in a big way, was what we set out to do this season.”

As BSI rounds the midway point of the season, everything is on the line.

“Westin breaking through in (Toyota) GR is incredibly encouraging. He’s done everything right, just hadn’t put it fully together until this past weekend, and we always knew it was coming. Now we’re out to fight for what we know we’re capable of. We’re right in this championship fight in both series and I couldn’t be more excited.”

BSI Racing’s next event is the Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by Michelin at Mid-Ohio, June 6-8. Races can be streamed on IMSA.tv.
